Ground resistance testing and “Step & Touch” Report

Engineered Grounding for Electrical Safety Compliance.

Effective grounding is fundamental to electrical safety, particularly in high-voltage installations. As specified in Section 36-304 of the Canadian Electrical Code, all station ground resistance measurements must verify that step and touch voltage limits meet safety thresholds outlined in Table 52.

Our Testing Approach

At Vancouver Industrial Electric Ltd., we conduct full ground system testing and design following this methodical process:

  • Soil Resistivity Testing: Our field technicians measure soil resistivity at your installation site to determine grounding performance under fault current conditions.
  • Soil Sampling & Analysis: We collect and evaluate soil samples to inform optimal system design.
  • Custom Ground Electrode Design: Using collected field data, our engineering team develops a ground electrode system ensuring safety under maximum fault current scenarios.
  • Step & Touch Voltage Compliance Reporting: We validate system performance against acceptable voltage limits to safeguard personnel and equipment.

Applications

  • High voltage substations and service entrance points
  • New ground system installations
  • Safety enhancements for existing grounding networks
  • Regulatory compliance assessments
